HOW TO WRITE AN IELTS BAND 9 ESSAY

Are you preparing for your IELTS preparation now? Do you know that most Indian candidates score between 6.5 and 7.0? Although that is the score that most universities look at, you’re most likely to get lost among tens of thousands of other students who share the same bandwidth as yours.

Don’t panic! We’ll boost your IELTS preparation and guide you to achieve a band score of 9 in your essay in IELTS writing test, which can open your doors to many top universities!

As you must be aware by now, IELTS academic writing session involves two tasks – the writing task II is the essay, carrying two third weight of the entire band score. In this task, you are required to write about your opinion or views on a particular topic and give appropriate examples from your own experience. You’ll need to write about a minimum of 250 words in under 40 minutes. Do remember that you will get penalized for writing a shorter essay than the given word limit.

Although a longer essay won’t get you an extra advantage, its advised that you must write just over 250 words (target approximately 260 – 280 words) – simply because you have limited time and you have another task to finish in 20 minutes (writing task I).

DON’Ts

As a thumb rule, you must avoid the following:

  • Write below the word limit (under length)
  • Copying words or phrases directly from the question paper
