Reading Test 

The Reading Test of SAT comprises of 52 multiple choice questions with a time limit of 65 minutes. All questions are multiple-choice questions based on the passages taken from History, Social Studies and Science. This Test determines your command over evidence. 

Writing Test 

The Writing Test of SAT comprises of 44 multiple-choice questions with a time limit of 35 minutes. The writing test enables the student to read the passage and suggest corrections for the same. It evaluates the expression of ideas, sentence structure, usage, and punctuation skills of the students.  

Mathematics 

The Mathematics section of SAT has two components: Math Test – without Calculator and Math Test – with Calculator. There is a total of 58 questions with a duration of 80 minutes comprising of 45 MCQ’s and 13 Grid Questions in the following pattern: 

The Math Test – (Without Calculator) - 20 questions (15 multiple choice and 5 grid-in) with a total time of 25 minutes. 

The Math Test – (With Calculator) - 38 questions (30 multiple choice and 8 grid-in) with a total time of 55 minutes.

Q. What is the SAT?

Q. Why should I take the SAT? 

Most Universities require a standardized test score as part of the college application, and many use your SAT score to see if they can provide you with merit-based scholarships. 

Q. What is the SAT scored out of? 

The SAT is scored on a pointer of 1600 comprising of 400 points each for Reading and Writing and 800 points for Mathematics. 

Q. What is the duration of the SAT? 

The SAT tests you for your skills in evidence-based reading & writing, Mathematics. The duration of the test is 3 hours with 50 minutes for the essay (Optional). 

Q. What are the types of SAT Exam? 

There are two types of Tests – General Test and Subject Test. The General Test evaluates a student for evidence-based reading and writing, mathematics and Essay (optional). The Subject Test is for a student specializing in a particular subject like History, Mathematics, Science, English and Foreign Languages. 

Q. When should I take the SAT? 

Ideally SAT should be taken in Class XI and if a student is not happy with the scores, he/she can take the exam once again in class XII. 

Q. Do I need to prepare for the SAT? 

Yes, you should start planning after your Class X Boards and begin preparing in Class XI to secure good scores. 

Q. How many times can I take the SAT? 

SAT can be taken innumerable times, but it is recommended to take at least 2 times. 

Q. How do I sign up for the SAT? 

SAT can be registered online (SAT.collegeboard.org). Student should check the registration deadline and the nearest SAT Test Center. 

Q. Is the Calculator used for the Mathematics exam?

 The Calculator can only be used for one section of the Mathematics Test while the other section prohibits the use of calculators. Do check the type of calculators to be used. 

Q. What is SAT eligibility? 

There are no eligibility criteria laid down by The College Board for taking the SAT exam. SAT is for admission to undergraduate programs and candidates are advised to start planning and preparing for the test in Class XI. 

Q. What is SAT Registration Fees? 

The registration fee of SAT for Indian Students is US $104 which includes an International Fee of US$49. 

Q. Documents required for taking the SAT? 

You need to carry your Original Passport, Aadhaar Card & Printed Admission Ticket for the Test.
