Handling the Listening Section:
He says, “I found this section very competitive but if one must listen carefully and there is a great possibility to score a band 9. Since I have obtained a 9, the only suggestion I could offer is to stick to the conversation fully with complete attention to the audio and avoid erasing while the test is in progress.”
Making the Most of the Reading Section:
Godson hints on how to overcome difficulties in the reading section, “Most of my friends found this section to be very tough. Somehow I managed to get an 8.5.” Godson remarks modestly. “One should look for synonyms or paraphrased answers and not for the exact words mentioned in the question”. To manage time and avoid the rush at the last minute it is always better to transfer answers to the answer sheet directly after each passage or set of questions. Answering the paragraph summary questions while reading passage might save a lot of time.”
Bringing Out Your Best - the Writing Section:
He emphasizes to focus on the right aspects and tells us to be very precise in this section. “Writing long passages won’t help. One should spend more time on the longer essay than describing the bar/pie chart. You must check your answer once you finish writing. If you still have some time then replace some of the common words with fancy synonyms or phrases that might impress the examiner.”
Being open and friendly in the Speaking Section:
He says, “My speaking test got over very quickly even before I could realize but I still managed to get an 8. I believe I could have done a lot better by introducing my ideas differently in the last question answer round.” “I feel one should keep talking till the examiner stops and the words should be easily understood”.
His suggests, “try avoiding fillers like “mmm’, ‘urgh’ and ‘hmm’ as they affect your fluency and definitely reduces your chance to score high. Don’t forget to use an idiom at least once in your whole speaking test. Adding it in the cue card round will make your speech sound impressive.”
